Bereishit Chapter 7

 

א וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה לְנֹחַ בֹּא-אַתָּה וְכָל-בֵּיתְךָ אֶל-הַתֵּבָה: כִּי-אֹתְךָ רָאִיתִי צַדִּיק לְפָנַי בַּדּוֹר הַזֶּה

 

 

Vayomer HASHEM le-Noach bo-atah vechol-beitcha el-hatevah ki-otcha ra'iti tzaddik lefanai bador hazeh.

 

 

1. HASHEM said to Noach, "Come into the tevah, you and your family. I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation."

 

 

ב מִכֹּל הַבְּהֵמָה הַטְּהוֹרָה תִּקַּח-לְךָ שִׁבְעָה שִׁבְעָה--אִישׁ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ וּמִן-הַבְּהֵמָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא טְהֹרָה הִוא שְׁנַיִם--אִישׁ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ

 

 

Mikol habehemah hatehorah tikach-lecha shiv'ah shiv'ah ish ve'ishto umin-habehemah asher lo tehorah hi shnayim ish ve'ishto.

 

 

2. "Of every clean animal take seven by seven, a male and its mate. Of every animal that is not clean, take two, a male and its mate."

 

 

ג גַּם מֵעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם שִׁבְעָה שִׁבְעָה זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה לְחַיּוֹת זֶרַע עַל-פְּנֵי כָל-הָאָרֶץ

 

 

Gam me'of hashamayim shiv'ah shiv'ah zachar unekevah lechayot zera al-penei chol-ha'aretz.

 

 

3. "Also of the birds of the heavens take seven by seven, male and female. Let them keep seed alive on the face of the all the earth."

 

 

ד כִּי לְיָמִים עוֹד שִׁבְעָה אָנֹכִי מַמְטִיר עַל-הָאָרֶץ אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לָיְלָה וּמָחִיתִי אֶת-כָּל-הַיְקוּם אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי מֵעַל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה

 

 

Ki le-yamim od shive'ah anochi mametir al-ha'aretz arba'im yom ve'arba'im lailah umachiti et-kol-hayekum asher asiti me'al penei ha'adamah.

 

 

4. "In another seven days I will bring ran on the earth for forty days and forty nights. I will obliterate every organism that I have made from the face of the ground."

 

 

ה וַיַּעַשׂ, נֹחַ כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּהוּ יְהוָה

 

 

Vaya'as Noach kechol asher-tzivahu HASHEM.

 

 

5. Noach did all that HASHEM had commanded.

 

 

ו וְנֹחַ בֶּן-שֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וְהַמַּבּוּל הָיָה מַיִם עַל-הָאָרֶץ

 

 

VeNoach ben-shesh me'ot shanah vehamabul hayah mayim al-ha'aretz.

 

 

6. Noach was 600 years old when the flood occurred; water was on the earth.

 

 

ז וַיָּבֹא נֹחַ וּבָנָיו וְאִשְׁתּוֹ וּנְשֵׁי-בָנָיו אִתּוֹ--אֶל-הַתֵּבָה: מִפְּנֵי מֵי הַמַּבּוּל

 

 

Vayavo Noach uvanav ve'ishto uneshei-vanav ito el-hatevah mipenei mei hamabul.

 

 

7. Noach, with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives came into the tevah before the waters of the flood.

 

 

ח מִן-הַבְּהֵמָה הַטְּהוֹרָה וּמִן-הַבְּהֵמָה אֲשֶׁר אֵינֶנָּה טְהֹרָה וּמִן-הָעוֹף--וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר-רֹמֵשׂ עַל-הָאֲדָמָה

 

 

Min-habehemah hatehorah umin-habehemah asher einenah tehorah umin-ha'of vechol asher-romes al-ha'adamah.

 

 

8. The clean animals, the animals which are not clean, the birds and all that creep on the ground,

 

 

ט שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם בָּאוּ אֶל-נֹחַ אֶל-הַתֵּבָה--זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה: כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֱלֹהִים אֶת-נֹחַ

 

 

Shenayim shnayim ba'u el-Noach el-hatevah zachar unekevah ka'asher tzivah Elokim et-Noach.

 

 

9. two by two they cameto Noach, to the tevah, male and female, as G-d had commanded Noach.

 

 

י וַיְהִי לְשִׁבְעַת הַיָּמִים וּמֵי הַמַּבּוּל הָיוּ עַל-הָאָרֶץ

 

 

Vayehi leshiv'at hayamim umei hamabul hayu al-ha'aretz.

 

 

10. Seven days passed and the waters of the flood were on the earth.

 

 

יא בִּשְׁנַת שֵׁשׁ-מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה לְחַיֵּי-נֹחַ, בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי בְּשִׁבְעָה-עָשָׂר יוֹם לַחֹדֶשׁ--בַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה נִבְקְעוּ כָּל-מַעְיְנֹת תְּהוֹם רַבָּה וַאֲרֻבֹּת הַשָּׁמַיִם נִפְתָּחוּ

 

 

Bishnat shesh-me'ot shanah lechaiei-Noach bachodesh hasheni beshiv'ah-asar yom lachodesh bayom hazeh niveke'u kol-mayenot tehom rabah va'arubot hashamayim niftachu.

 

 

11. In the six hundredth year of Noach's life, in the second month, on the 17th of the month - on that day all the great wellsprings of the deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

 

 

יב וַיְהִי הַגֶּשֶׁם עַל-הָאָרֶץ אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לָיְלָה

 

 

Vayehi hageshem al-ha'aretz arba'im yom ve'arba'im lailah.

 

 

12. There was rain on the earth forty days and forty nights.

 

 

יג בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה בָּא נֹחַ וְשֵׁם-וְחָם וָיֶפֶת בְּנֵי-נֹחַ וְאֵשֶׁת נֹחַ וּשְׁלֹשֶׁת נְשֵׁי-בָנָיו אִתָּם--אֶל-הַתֵּבָה

 

 

Be'etzem hayom hazeh ba Noach veShem-veCham vaYefet benei-Noach ve'eshet Noach usheloshet neshei-vanav itam el-hatevah;

 

 

13. In that very day, Noach boarded the tevah, along with Shem, Cham and Yefet, Noach's sons; Noach's wife; and his three sons' wives, with them;

 

 

יד הֵמָּה וְכָל-הַחַיָּה לְמִינָהּ וְכָל-הַבְּהֵמָה לְמִינָהּ וְכָל-הָרֶמֶשׂ הָרֹמֵשׂ עַל-הָאָרֶץ לְמִינֵהוּ וְכָל-הָעוֹף לְמִינֵהוּ כֹּל צִפּוֹר כָּל-כָּנָף

 

 

Hemah vechol-hachayah leminah vechol-habehemah leminah vechol haremes haromes al-ha'aretz leminehu vechol-ha'of leminehu kol tzipor kol-kanaf.

 

 

14. they and every wild beast of its kind, every domestic animal of its kind, every creeping thing that crawls on the earth of its kind, and every flying thing of its kind - every bird, every winged creature.

 

 

טו וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל-נֹחַ אֶל-הַתֵּבָה שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם מִכָּל-הַבָּשָׂר אֲשֶׁר-בּוֹ רוּחַ חַיִּים

 

 

Vayavo'u el-Noach el-hatevah shnayim shnayim mikol-habasar asher-bo ruach chayim.

 

 

15. They came to Noach, to the tevah, two by two from all flesh that has in it a breath of life.

 

 

טז וְהַבָּאִים זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה מִכָּל-בָּשָׂר בָּאוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֹתוֹ אֱלֹהִים וַיִּסְגֹּר יְהוָה בַּעֲדוֹ

 

 

Vehaba'im zachar unekevah mikol-basar ba'u ka'asher tzivah oto Elokim vayisgor HASHEM ba'ado.

 

 

16. Those who came were male and female; of all flesh they came, as G-d had commanded. HASHEM then sealed him in

 

 

יז וַיְהִי הַמַּבּוּל אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם עַל-הָאָרֶץ וַיִּרְבּוּ הַמַּיִם וַיִּשְׂאוּ אֶת-הַתֵּבָה וַתָּרָם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ

 

 

Vayehi hamabul arba'im yom al-ha'aretz vayirbu hamayim vayis'u et-hatevah vataram me'al ha'aretz.

 

 

17. There was a flood on the earth for forty days. The waters increased and lifted the tevah, and it rose up from on the earth.

 

 

יח וַיִּגְבְּרוּ הַמַּיִם וַיִּרְבּוּ מְאֹד עַל-הָאָרֶץ וַתֵּלֶךְ הַתֵּבָה עַל-פְּנֵי הַמָּיִם

 

 

Vayigberu hamayim vayirbu me'od al-ha'aretz vatelech hatevah al-penei hamayim.

 

 

18. The waters surged and increased on the earth very much, and the tevah drifted on the surface of the water.

 

 

יט וְהַמַּיִם גָּבְרוּ מְאֹד מְאֹד--עַל-הָאָרֶץ וַיְכֻסּוּ כָּל-הֶהָרִים הַגְּבֹהִים אֲשֶׁר-תַּחַת כָּל-הַשָּׁמָיִם

 

 

Vehamayim gaveru me'od me'od al-ha'aretz vayichusu kol-heharim hagevohim asher-tachat kol-hashamayim.

 

 

19. The waters surged on the earth very, very much, and all the hight mountains, under all the heavens, were covered.

 

 

כ חֲמֵשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה אַמָּה מִלְמַעְלָה גָּבְרוּ הַמָּיִם וַיְכֻסּוּ הֶהָרִים

 

 

Chamesh esreh amah milmalah gavru hamayim vayechusu heharim.

 

 

20. Fifteen cubits upward surged the waters, and the mountains were covered.

 

 

כא וַיִּגְוַע כָּל-בָּשָׂר הָרֹמֵשׂ עַל-הָאָרֶץ בָּעוֹף וּבַבְּהֵמָה וּבַחַיָּה וּבְכָל-הַשֶּׁרֶץ הַשֹּׁרֵץ עַל-הָאָרֶץ--וְכֹל הָאָדָם

 

 

Vayigva kol-basar haromes al-ha'aretz ba'of uvabehemah uvachayah uvechol-hasheretz hashoretz al-ha'aretz vechol ha'adam;

 

 

21. All flesh that stirs on the earth perished: birds, domestic animals, wild beasts, everything that creeps on the earth, and every human being;.

 

 

כב כֹּל אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁמַת-רוּחַ חַיִּים בְּאַפָּיו מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר בֶּחָרָבָה--מֵתוּ

 

 

Kol asher nishmat-ruach chayim be'apav mikol asher becharavah metu.

 

 

22. all that had the breath of a vital spirit in its nostrils. Everything on dry land died.

 

 

כג וַיִּמַח אֶת-כָּל-הַיְקוּם אֲשֶׁר עַל-פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה מֵאָדָם עַד-בְּהֵמָה עַד-רֶמֶשׂ וְעַד-עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן-הָאָרֶץ וַיִּשָּׁאֶר אַךְ-נֹחַ וַאֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ בַּתֵּבָה

 

 

Vayimach et-kol-hayekum asher al-penei ha'adamah me'adam ad behemah ad-remes ve'ad-of hashamayim vayimachu min-ha'aretz vayisha'er ach-Noach va'asher ito batevah.

 

 

23. [The flood] obliterated every organism that had been on the face of the ground: humanity, animals, creeping things, and birds of the heaven. They were obliterated from the earth; only Noach and those with him in the tevah survived.

 

 

כד וַיִּגְבְּרוּ הַמַּיִם עַל-הָאָרֶץ חֲמִשִּׁים וּמְאַת יוֹם

 

 

Vayigberu hamayim al-ha'aretz chamishim ume'at yom.

 

 

24. The waters surged on the earth for 150 days.
