1:1 Masa-devar HASHEM el-Yisrael beyad Malachi.
The prophecy of the word of HASHEM to Yisrael, by the hand of Malachi.

2 Ahavti etkhem amar HASHEM va'amartem bamah ahavtanu halo-ach 'Esav le-Yaakov ne'um-HASHEM va'ohav et-Yaakov.
I loved you, says HASHEM; but you say, 'How have You loved us?' Was not 'Esav the brother of Yaakov - the word of HASHEM - yet I loved Yaakov.

3 Ve'et-'Esav saneti va'asim et-harav shmamah ve'et-nachalato letanot midbar.
But I hated 'Esav; I made his mountains a desolation and gave his heritage to the desert serpents.

4 Ki tomar Edom rushashnu venashuv venivneh charavot koh amar HASHEM Tzevaot hemah yivnu va'ani eheros vekar'u lahem gevul rish'ah veha'am asher-za'am HASHEM ad-olam.
Though Edom will say, 'We have been become destitute, but we will return and rebuild the ruins,' thus says HASHEM, Master of Legions: They may build, but I will tear down! They will be called 'the boundary of wickedness' and 'the people whom HASHEM have condemned forever.'

5 Ve'eineichem tir'einah ve'atem tomeru yigdal HASHEM me'al ligevul Yisrael.
And your eyes will behold it, and you will sayupon the territory of Yisrael, 'May HASHEM be glorified!'

6 Ben yechabed av ve'eved adonav ve'im-av ani ayeh chevodi ve'im-adonim ani ayeh mora'i amar HASHEM Tzevaot lachem hakohanim bozei shemi va'amartem bameh vazinu et-shmecha.
A son will honor his father and a servant his master. If I am a Father, where is my honor? And if I am a Master where is My fear? says Hashem, Master of Legions, to you, the Kohanim who scorn My Name. Yet you say, 'How have we scorned Your Name?'

7 Magishim al-mizbechi lechem mego'al va'amartem bameh ge'alnucha be'emorechem shulchan HASHEM nivzeh hu.
You present on My Altar loathsome food, and you say, 'How have we loathed You?' By your saying, 'The table of HASHEM is repulsive.'

8 Vechi-tagishun iver lizbo'ach ein ra vechi tagishu pise'ach vecholeh ein ra hakrivehu na lefechatecha hayirtzecha o hayisa faneycha amar HASHEM Tzevaot.
When you present a blind animal for sacrifice, is nothing wrong? And when you present a lame or sick [animal], is nothing wrong? Present it, if you please, to your governor: Would he be pleased with you or show you favor? said Hashem, Master of Legions. 9 Ve'atah chalu-na feney-El vichanenu miyedechem hayetah zot hayisa mikem panim amar HASHEM Tzevaot.
And now, if you now entreat G-d, will He be gracious unto us? This [sin] comes from your hand; will He show you favor? says Hashem, Master of Legions.

10 Mi gam-bachem veyisgor dlatayim velo-ta'iru mizbechi chinam eyn-li chefetz bachem amar HASHEM Tzevaot uminchah lo-ertzeh miyedchem.
If only there were someone among you who would shut the [Temple] doors, so that you could not kindle upon My Altar in vain! I have no desire for you, said HASHEM, Master of Legions, and I will not accept an offering from your hand.

11 Ki mimizrach-shemesh ve'ad-mevo'o gadol shemi bagoyim uvechol-makom muktar mugash lishmi uminchah tehorah ki-gadol shemi bagoyim amar HASHEM Tzevaot.
For from the rising of the sun to its setting, My Name is great among the nations, and in every place [where offerings] are presented to My Name, and also pure meal-offerings; for My Name is great among the nations, says HASHEM, Master of Legions.

12 Ve'atem mechalelim oto be'emorchem shulchan HASHEM mego'al hu venivo nivzeh ochlo.
But you defile it, by your saying, 'The table of HASHEM is loathsome'; and by [your] description of it as 'Its food is repulsive.'

13 Va'amartem hineh matla'ah vehipachtem oto amar HASHEM Tzevaot vahavetem gazul ve'et-hapise'ach ve'et-hacholeh vahavetem et-haminchah ha'ertzeh otah miyedchem amar HASHEM.
You say, 'Behold, this [offering] is so burdensome,' and so you vex Him, says HASHEM, Master of Legions. You bring the stolen and the lame, and the sick [animal], and bring [it] as an offering - shall I accept it from your hand? says HASHEM.

14 Ve'arur nochel veyesh be'edro zachar venoder vezove'ach moshchat l'HASHEM ki melech gadol ani amar HASHEM Tzevaot ushemi nora vagoyim.
Cursed be the charlatan who has a [superior]ram in his flock, but vows and sacrifices a blemished [animal] to HASHEM! For I am a great King, says HASHEM, Master of Legions, and My Name is awesome among the nations.

2:1 Ve'atah aleichem hamitzvah hazot hakohanim.
And now, this commandment is upon you, O Kohanim.

2 Im-lo tishme'u ve'im-lo tasimu al-lev latet kavod lishmi amar HASHEM Tzevaot veshilachti vachem et-ham'erah ve'aroti et-birchoteichem vegam arotiha ki einchem samim al-lev.
If you do not listen and do not take it to heart to render honor to My Name, says HASHEM, Master of Legions, I will send the curse among you and I will curse your blessings. Indeed I have already cursed it, for you do not take to heart.

3 Hineni go'er lachem et-hazera vezeriti feresh al-pneichem peresh chageichem venasa etchem elav.
Behold, I am suppressing the seed because of you; and I will scatter filth upon your faces, the filth of your festive offerings; [your sin] will carry you to this.

4 Vydatem ki shilachti aleichem et hamitzvah hazot lihyot briti et-Levi amar HASHEM Tzevaot.
Know that I have sent this commandment to you, so that My covenant should be with Levi, says HASHEM, Master of Legions.

5 Briti hayetah ito hachayim vehashalom va'etnem-lo mora vayira'eni umipenei shemi nichat hu.
My covenant was with him, life and peace; I gave these to him for the sake of the fear with which he feared Me, for he was in awe of My Name.

6 Torat emet hayetah befihu ve'avelah lo-nimtzah visfatav beshalom uvemishor halach iti verabim heshiv me'avon.
The teaching of truth was in his mouth, and injustice was not found on his lips; he walked with Me in peace and with fairness, and turned many away from inquity.

7 Ki-siftei chohen yishmeru-da'at veTorah yevakeshu mipihu ki mal'akh HASHEM-Tzevaot hu.
For the lips of the Kohen should safeguard knowledge, and people should seek teaching from his mouth; for he is an agent of HASHEM, Master of Legions.
